Focus T25 Gamma

My birthday was at the end of September, and my wonderful other half bought me gamma.  Now, my workout buddy and I can continue the Focus T25 awesomeness (because we truly believe it is awesome)!  I was so excited to get the next program!!

gamma

With the regular gamma package, you get the 4 DVDs (which are reviewed below), a pure gamma calendar, and a hybrid gamma calendar.  The pure gamma calendar is a 4 week schedule of only gamma workouts.  The awesome part of this calendar? NO DOUBLE DIP FRIDAYS!!!  I cannot tell you how exciting that is!!  The hybrid calendar is a schedule of mostly gamma workouts with some alpha and beta mixed in.  This does bring back double dip Friday, but it’s probably going to get you really ripped as well.

I have only completed the first week of pure gamma.  Holy moly do these give you a workout.  Gamma focuses on strength, and strength it is.  My upper body was so sore, which was good news for my thighs I guess.  What I am not sure if I like or not is the constant pounding of the same muscles.  When we did back to back upper body workouts, I noticed by biceps and shoulders really hated me.  Only the results will tell though.  The other thing about this workout?  Be prepared for burpees.  LOTS AND LOTS of burpees.   They are weighted, sometimes you do things on the floor (think push up jacks, pike ups, in and out abs), but the thing they have in common is they are rough, and they are not going away.  Here is a review of all of the DVDs

Rip’t Up: This workout focuses primarily on the upper body.  Lots of weights, lots of burpees.  It definitely does not miss a muscle.  There are a few cardio things, but primarily you are working with weights or body weight.  Great upper body workout that does not skimp out on the sweat!!

Extreme Circuit: The package says the weights never leave your hands.  This is true.  Even the cardio intervals are weighted, which is a fun change.  The weight do leave your hand if you are doing something in a plank position (except those weighted burpees).  You can definitely tell the focus of this is strength.  The burn is felt.

The Pyramid: This is just as it sounds, you do a move, then you do it twice, then you do it three times and so on until the next move.  Normally you get up to 7 or 8 reps at a time, which adds up to a lot of times you do the move itself.  This is a pretty interesting (and tiring) way to do the workout.  It also gives you a little (and I mean a little) bit of rest between the moves.

Speed 3.0: I didn’t think it could get any faster than speed 2.0, but it does.  Oh my goodness….not to mention the amount of burpees.  This one is set up like speed 2.0 (two different sets with three levels each…then you combine both sets).  This was the workout we did twice this week (Monday and Friday), and I could already tell a difference between the workouts.  I know part of the difference was because I knew what I was doing, but part of it was I just felt stronger and could push harder.  I was wearing my bodymedia during this workout and burned over 300 calories in 25 minutes.  It’s pretty amazing!!

Overall, I am super excited to see the results of gamma.  My workout buddy and I are alpha awesome, went from beta babies to beta babes, and now we are getting gamma gorgeous!!  It’s going to be epic!!

Have y’all tried gamma?  What do you think?

Santa Hustle

I may have done something a little crazy…

Like I said in my previous post, I started the active.com’s couch to 5k app.  I am not always the best at following through with things, especially when I am doing it on my own.  I thought I could use a little extra motivation, so I signed up for my first timed 5K.

DownloadedFile

I signed up for the Santa Hustle!!  This is a Christmas themed 5K.  With your race packet, you get a santa hat, a dri-fit shirt, and a santa beard.  There is Christmas music along the trail, candy and cookies along the way, reindeers, and carriage rides.  Also, there is going to be an after party (the website says something about a bar crawl) at Navy Pier.

This looked like a fun race to sign up for in order to keep focused on the goal.  I like the calorie burn, the extra cardio, and the way my head is clear (or focused) when I run.  Now, I will hopefully keep it up.  I don’t know that I have any time goals; my only goal is to run the whole thing.

I have only done one other 5K before, and that was the Color Run two years ago.  I walked the whole thing with a friend of mine.  The Color Run is A LOT of fun, but it’s not timed.  At least this will give me motivation to run….run, run, run.  So, this is my motivation.  I want to do well, and it seems like so much fun.

Now all I have to do is train.  What do ya’ll do to train for your first 5K?  Any tips or tricks?

Goals, Personal

Sunday Reflection

It’s been a long time since I’ve done a blog post, and I am not really sure why.  I have been really busy with work and I have had a lot of personal stuff going on.  Well, the two kind of blend.  I am really close to my supervisor.  She is a fantastic person and a wonderful mentor.  I have learned a lot under her.  About the middle of June, she and I got into a big fight, which sent me into a huge tailspin.  And it just kept getting worse, and now it is finally looking a little bit better.  We had some large audits at work, and I had a significant part to play…I updated all of the privacy policies with the new HIPAA standards (sounds like boatloads of fun, huh?).  This was a big thing for my supervisor to ask me to do, and I think that is how we have started to mend our relationship.  She has since come over to my house to help us put on a storm door.  We were also invited to her Halloween party.  While I don’t think we are in the place we were before, I think we are getting there.  Hopefully…

Between the audits and everything going on personally, I just haven’t had the time or energy to blog, but I really miss it.  We passed all of our audits with flying colors!!  It was actually pretty cool to see.  My workout buddy and I also started the pure gamma portion of Focus T25.  We are moving on up.  It is glorious!!  It’s hard and you feel the burn, but it is a really awesome feeling to accomplish.

Also, I have started a couch to 5K program again.  This one is a little less intense than the couch to 10K, and I am determined to stick with it.  I hope the rain today lets up as I would like to go for a run later.  The new app I found has GPS so I can track how far I go and how fast I am running.  It’s pretty exciting, and I have enjoyed going on runs so far.  Now we just have to see if I can keep with it.

The other major thing that recently happened is my better half started having problems with her back.  A little over a year ago started a saga of foot surgeries (2) as the first one had some complications.  This resulted in her being in a walking boot for several months.  Fast forward 11 months since she was in a walking boot and she is in the living room balling.  Essentially, being in the walking boot resulted in an important joint being irritated, and then she must have slept wrong, which resulted in her being unable to move around for a day.  After seeing the doctor and the chiropractor, she is doing much better and can walk around unassisted.  In fact, she didn’t even take her medication yesterday.  I am so relieved.

I wish my better half would take better care of herself.  She is overweight as well, and will eat sweets and soda (and will sometimes encourage me to do the same).  My workout buddy has encouraged my better half to join her at the gym.  I am excited to see where this leads, because if she starts working out, she’s not going to want to put crap in her body.  I am hoping she will take this journey with us.

This week, I want to get my fitness ass into gear.  This means:

  1. Posting at least three blog posts.  At least one of them has to be more personal (no just talking about food and working out).
  2. Logging my food in myfitnesspal
  3. Wearing my bodymedia
  4. Doing gamma everyday
  5. Running three times per week

What are your goals for the week?

STATurday: Beta Results

Wow! I can’t believe I have not been blogging for a while.  Life has been crazy nuts.  In the midst of this crazy business, that I will discuss later, my workout buddy and I finished beta round!!  Beta (which I know I should have blogged about more) was awesome!  Beta was less painful but more intense than Alpha.  Here are all of my before, alpha, and beta pictures.

Overall, I am happy with my results.  I think I could have gotten better results if I had been more strict with my diet.  This month, my workout buddy and I started Gamma.  Oh my goodness!!  It is AMAZING and terrifying all at the same time.  I am hoping to blog more as I really miss it, and I think it holds me more accountable.  I sent in my pictures to get my beachbody shirt for completing T25.  Now, we are doing gamma then we are going to do the hybrid of all of the workouts.  More on gamma in a later post!!

Are you happy with the result you have had?
